Film Lesson: "The Right Stuff"

The United States ans the USSR were competing in the film because they were competiting to see who came finish stuff first and do stuff the other country has never yet to do. They were in a space competition and it was a big part of the cold war. This happenend a few years after World War The USSR was the first to get a satalliete in space and a Russian was the first man in space, while the US had sent a monkey in space a few weeks before. The movie was really funny. My favorite scenes in the movie was when the test pilots were in the plane.You could see how its like being in a plane all the way up there in the sky and seeing the other planes. Another part of the movie that i liked was when the US was trying to get a rocket in space before Russia.

NATO and The Warsaw Pact

NATA is countries North America and Europe and The Warsaw Pact was the Soviet Union and its satellite countries. The Warsaw Pact was countries in Europe too and the Soviets wanted to dominate the alliance and they did. NATO was formed by countries that came up with the idea if another country in NATO was being attacked the other countries will come to there aids and help them out. NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The Soviets wanted to maintain power in the communist countries in Europe. In 1991, The Warsaw Pact was labeled nonexistent due to democratic revolutions.

Schindler's List

The movie Schindler's List was a great movie. It really showed what the Jews went through in the Holocaust. In the movie it showed how the Jews were killed. Some of them were shot or beaten. The Nazis actually killed some of the Jews for fun because it was like playing a game for them. The old Jews or the young children or Jews with problems they were killed on the spot because they were to ill to do any work and the Germans wanted to eliminate the. It was hard for parents when the Nazis took there children away from them. Some of the Jews lived because they had some really good hiding spots. They used to hide in the floors and inside pianos. I think this film was more powerful because it showed more realistic scenes.

Film Lesson: "Night and Fog"

Night and Fog was a French documentary but it can be subtitled in English. Some of my reactions to the movie Night and Fog was sad. I found the film alittle powerful because it showed things thta happenend during the Holocaust. I think the movie was a good movie about the Holocaust the scenes and pictures were very shocking but it showed the brutality that happened. I was shocked because the Jews were ill treated and sent to concentration camps also known as there deaths. The documentary showed some of the dead people it showed us how there bodies looked like damaged and burnt. The movie Schindlers list was another great movie but i liked it more than Night and Fog. In Schindlers list it showed the devastating pictures from the concentration camps and the dead bodies. It showed how they were just piling up bodies and burning them in a fire. I felt bad when some of the babies and children were being tooken away from there parents.

The treaty of Versailles affected Germany at the end of world war 1 in many ways. When world war 1 ended, Germany faced a lot of suffering. When they lost, Germany had to sign the Treaty of Versailles and on the treaty it said that everything that happened in the war was Germany's fault. They got blamed for everything. Germany had went to war to try and conquer some land and they ended up loosing land and lots of solders. There economy was so bad because they had to pay and rebuild everything that got destroyed and then taxes were raised. I think that the treaty of Versailles caused the rise of Hitler because it just basically pissed him off and he wanted revenge. Germany wanted to become a powerful nation again so they people trusted Hitler and they picked him as there leader and it turned out to be a bad choice.

Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) and the Modernization of Turkey

Mustafa Kemal modernized Turkey and made it more secular. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

He was to go give Turkey dignity,equality and make them happy. Throughout his modernization a secular government

and education played a big role in it. He made changes to the whole country. One change was that he became a powerful

leader he defeated all who opposed him. He had put end to the Ottoman empire. He was a military hero when he came back from the Dardanelles in 1915. It was then that he decided to lead his nation to liberation. Even peasants, who were greatly ignored in the Ottoman Empire, were considered important. Secular is when religious belief should not influence public and governmental decisions. In other country's Religion would be a Law. The life of people who lived in Turkey changed. Mustafa was the president of turkey for a long time and he made lots of changes to his country.

Gandhi helped Indian gain independence over Great Britain. He was known as a "hero" to the Indian People. He was known as a her because Gandhi had fought for India and its independence from Britain. He wanted to win its independence without violence he was a kind man and very intelligent. Gandhi did things for people to believe him because no one had believed him at first. He was sent to jail for long periods of time fighting for his country. Because of Gandhi India got its independence he changed the world. After the independence he got mad because the Hindu and Muslim people were being separated. In the end he was shot he was an inspiration.

The Russian Revolution

The Russians had a revolution because they wanted change. They were desperate and the government was very bad. The country was lacking food and it was very expensive. During the revolution man people were killed. They didn't have enough guns so they used to send guys out on the field without weapons and they had to pick up guns off the floor. The main person in control of the revolution was Czar. He died during the revolution. The quote peace, land and bread means like Russia. They wanted peace and a good government and they were defending there land and bread means like they needed food for it to be cheaper. The Bolsheviks believed in the teachings of Karl Marx and they were very violent. The Bolsheviks defeated the provisional government and Lenin took over Russia.

The primary causes of World War I was nationalism, militarism, the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and the collapse of the alliance system. Nationalism is the love that you have for you country. Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist on June 28, 1914. Then Austria Hungary made it an excuse to declare war on Serbia. Another cause of WWI was imperialism.

Opium Wars - Imperialism in China

The opium war started in 1839 and ended in 1842. China fought Britain during the war. China used to use opium as treatments for diseases and sicknesses. The Chinese had put opium in the green tea and it became very popular. The British started putting opium with tobacco so then it was smokable.

In the movie Mountains Of The Moons the European people wanted to find the starting of the nile river. They faced many problems because the African people weren't used to seeing white people. So they encountered some problems on the way and faced some hard tasks. The African people would like inspect them and touch there clothes and hair because it was new to them. Its strange because lake Victoria in Africa is names after a European queen because John Speek named it that when he found it. But he didn't discover it the African people living there long before him probably knew about it.

I learned why some countries that i didnt expect to know speaks certain languages. I thought Brazil speaks spanish but they speak portugesse because spanish conquered brasil. John Locke was was the most famous enlightenment thinkers. Our constitution had some of the ideas of the enlightenment thinkers. Back then everyone was ruled by a king or queen. Copernicus and the trial of Galileo

One of the theory's was the Geocentric and that was the old one. It had placed the earth at the center of the soloar system and everything that orbits it. The geocentric model was created by Greek astronomers assumed that the celestial bodies moving about the Earth followed perfectly circular paths.

The second theory was that the sun is stationary and at the center of the universe.

Historically, heliocentrism was apposed to geocentrism, which placed the Earth at the center. This is the correct theory.

The trial of Galileo was very important and it happenend in the year of 1633. Galieo had scientific skills and it helped prove the theory of heliocentrism. The catholic church was putting Galileo on trial because he had published a book about that the sun is the center of the universe and the planets move around it. Galileo had belived in heliocentrism and the Catholic church had belived in heliocentrism and the church wanted to know the truth.

Evolution V.S. Creation

First im gunna start off with evolution. Charles Darwin theory of evolution is know by many in the world and half the world belives his theory is correct and the other half disagrees. Charles Darwin theory was that all life is related somehow and evoloved from, something else because in our world some things look alike. For example his theory of evolution is that we could have decended from the Apes and the Chimpans. Also,Thats why Naural selection was that some animals had differents genes like he had talked about a finch bird that on 3 island its beak was a different size.

Creation is that a belief in religion. Which ever religion you are you have beliefs that God created you. Creation is the life found on the earth and universes etc. Also, almost the first thing you think about when thinking about creation is Adam and Eve. There were the first 2 humans on the earth. Adam was created first and then Eve. Creation is mostly bases on religion.

In my opinion, im gunna say im nit sure what to belive in because both creation and evolution has got me thinking and research on it is makeing me think i belive in both. So right now im 5o% and 50& in cration and evolution.
